The Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct, non-residential clinical services focused on substance use assessment, treatment, prevention, and recovery support. This role works with a diverse population, including justice-involved individuals, youth, adults, and families. The Counselor delivers evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions to support behavior change, recovery goals, and relapse prevention while ensuring compliance with organizational, programmatic, and ethical standards.
Clinical Services
Provide individual and group substance abuse counseling services tailored to participant needs.Conduct substance use assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing progress reviews.Utilize evidence-based, trauma-informed, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to support recovery, relapse prevention, and emotional regulation.Support participants in developing coping skills, accountability, and recovery-oriented goals.
Participant Tracking & Documentation
Document participant attendance, engagement, treatment progress, and outcomes in the electronic medical/health record (EMR/EHR) system.Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, funder, and regulatory requirements.Prepare reports, summaries, and treatment updates as required.
Collaboration & Coordination
Collaborate with program leadership, case management, and other service providers to ensure coordinated and effective care.Participate in staffing meetings, supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration as required.
Outcome Monitoring & Support
Support participants in achieving substance use treatment goals, including improved decision-making, emotional regulation, and reduced substance use.Monitor progress and adjust interventions as appropriate to support sustained recovery.
Compliance & Ethical Practice
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical, legal, and professional standards at all times.Ensure services are delivered in compliance with organizational policies, licensing requirements, and applicable funding or court-related standards.
Professional Development
Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development activities to maintain competence and enhance service delivery.
Licensed Counselor or Master’s-level clinician in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. MCAP, CAP preferred.
Experience providing clinical services to diverse populations, including youth, adults, families, and justice-involved individuals.
Experience with trauma-informed care, behavioral health interventions, and substance use prevention.
Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining high ethical and professional standards.
